This unprecedented event aims to bring together as many paintings and drawings as possible by the Renaissance master, around the five major paintings in the museum’s collection: the Mona Lisa, Saint John the Baptist, Saint Anne, La Belle Ferronnière and the Virgin of the Rocks.

You will also discover many paintings and sculptures from Leonardo da Vinci’s immediate circle.

Painting as the culmination.

A brilliant inventor, Leonardo da Vinci took an interest in every field of research of his time and left us an incredible number of documents in fields as varied as anatomy, town planning and botany. The Louvre’s exhibition sets out to show that painting was this great humanist’s favourite field. It presents the latest research into his artistic techniques and sheds light on his private life using archives.

Leonardo da Vinci and France.

Leonardo da Vinci died in France in 1519, aged 67. At the invitation of Francis I, he decided to leave Italy on the back of a mule. His journey lasted two months. The old man took many documents with him, as well as the famous Mona Lisa.

Le Relais Saint-Honoré recommends booking your ticket before your stay in Paris, as visits are by reservation only. Ticket sales opened on 18 June 2019 and some time slots are sometimes fully booked.
