An exhibition devoted to Thierry Mugler in Paris

Who was Thierry Mugler?

In case you didn’t know, Thierry Mugler (1948–2022) was a French designer who revolutionised fashion, haute couture and perfume. He established himself as one of the most daring and creative couturiers of his time. Avant-garde collections, spectacular shows and grandiose photographs were the hallmarks of his career.

Thierry Mugler, who died last January aged 73, is one of the greatest French designers of all time. He was born in Strasbourg in 1948 and developed a taste for fashion at the age of nine after joining a theatre near Paris. He only became a designer in the strict sense at 26 and worked for major ready-to-wear houses in France and abroad. But it was from the 1980s onwards that he gained international fame. He staged shows all over the world and won many awards, not only in fashion but also in perfumery, which he also revolutionised by creating many fragrance brands that became famous worldwide.

A major exhibition

Entitled “Thierry Mugler, Couturissime”, the exhibition is organised by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in partnership with the House of Mugler. You will see stage costumes, haute couture accessories, photographs and videos tracing Thierry’s life and outstanding career from 1973 to 2014.

No wonder the exhibition is attracting so much media attention and such success.
